Protecting You Smile with Fluoride Treatment
At Karen Harriman, DDS, we offer professional fluoride treatment as part of routine appointments to support the health of your teeth.
What is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a mineral that’s often found in food and municipal water. The amount you’re naturally exposed to in a day is usually very small. For decades, fluoride has been supported by organizations such as the American Dental Association and the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention as having valuable oral health benefits.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
Dr. Harriman uses topical fluoride, which is applied directly to the teeth and then allowed to gradually seep into the outer enamel. This will strengthen your enamel and help reduce your risk of decay.
Topical fluoride is found in many oral hygiene products such as:
Fluoride treatment is beneficial to patients of all ages but particularly important and recommended for children every six months.
Fluoride treatments used alone will not prevent cavities. Preventing cavities and other oral health issues can be managed by taking preventative actions such as brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day, as well as having a healthy diet low in sugar. It's also critical to attend your dental check-ups and cleanings twice a year at our Falls Church, VA practice.
